Govinda - Radha Krishna Temple

Produced by Beatle George Harrison in 1970, he also played guitar and harmonium. His lush production and arrangement added greatly to the enjoyment of this immensely infectious and beautiful song. It was released as a single and spent 8 weeks on the British charts and eventually reached number 23.

Hare Krishna!

And here are 2 more lovely YouTube slideshows of the song:

  1. 1st time I have heard this & agree it was infectious and pleasing on the ears. Loved how it picked up pace & speeded up in the 2nd half.

The actual slideshow had some simply beautiful pics also.

I also love his song 'My Sweet Lord', especially how it so effortlessly merges the chants of Hare Rama, Hare Krishna, with Hallelujah ...

Basically shows all religions are the same, just have different names for the Lord.

btw, I heard that there is a Gospel version of 'My Sweet Lord' that is sung in churches. Do you know if they actually sing the Hare Rama, Hare Krishna part or is that omitted ?

  2. Thanks AJ for sharing your thoughts... and I'm glad you've finally heard this all-time classic song.

Yes, the song nicely picked up the tempo in the second half. I believe this was done to incorporate a chanting effect into the song.

Indeed, the pictures in the slideshow are glorious and compliment the music beautifully.

Excellent point about "My Sweet Lord" and how he merged Hallelujah with Hare Krishna, Hare Rama, Hare Vishnu etc. into the chorus to show the universality of religion.

I'm sure there is a gospel version sung in churches, although I suspect the Hare Krishna etc. parts are omitted since Christianity is very clear about not worshiping other Gods. I can't say for sure since I haven't heard a gospel rendition of the song.

Btw, many diverse artists have covered "My Sweet Lord" including Aretha Franklin, Peggy Lee, Julio Iglesias, Edwin Starr, Richard Clayderman, Billy Preston and even Boy George! :)

  5. Just gave it a listen. Interesting. Sounds like a mixture of Techno Pop and the rock group "Yes." Nice.
